A student of Hallmark College in Ondo West Local government, Ondo state, Master Oluwatobiloba Oladipupo Akingbulugbe was on Monday offered a scholarship award by the Federal Government to study any science related course to a Phd level.
Akingbulugbe came third in a science competition organised for selected students at the secondary schools’ level from the 774 local governments in th country.
A student from Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and another one from Ogun State came first and second respectively.
The Vice-president, Yemi Osibanjo, who presented the presidential awards to the beneficiaries at a Technology and Innovation EXPO 2018 programme, held at the Eagles’ Square in Abuja, emphasized on how President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has been investing on science and technology.
Osibanjo lauded the students for their brilliant performances, adding that the country would have no course to regret in investing in the education of the trio.
In his goodwill message, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Agboola Alfred Ajayi, said he saw hope in Nigeria with the keen interest of Buhari’s administration in the development of science and technology.
Ajayi, who represented his boss, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, at the event noted that there is no way a country will grow without developing her indigenous science and technology.
The Deputy Governor revealed the effort of Akeredolu’s administration in the development of the science and technology at the state level, saying the state has established technology hubs, one each in the three senatorial districts of the state.
Ajayi, however praised Akingbulugbe, saying he would soon be rewarded by the state government for making the state proud.
Diginataries at the event, included the Secretary to the Government of the federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Oyegun, Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Mineral resources and Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi among others.
